The Japan Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp, in June 18 2008, featuring Tikara and Keika , the characters created by cartoonist Mauricio de Sousa as the mascots for the 100th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil.

Ambassador Akira Kusunoki stated that the Japanese government is honored and grateful to Mauricio de Sousa for his support of the anniversary festivities, herald as the Year of Friendship between Brasil and Japan.

Tikara's and Keika's date stamps appear on 15-million postage stamps that were issued in Brazil and Japan and that depict images of Brazil.  Designs show the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Iguazu Falls, coffee beans, the historic centre of Salvador - Bahia, a Toucan, and the Kasato Maru - the ship that arrived in Brazil on June 18,1908 bringing the first 791 immigrants from Japan.

Nowadays, Brazil is home to the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, numbering an estimated more than 1.5 million.

Tikara and Keika are published in Monica's Gang comic books and special magazines for children in Brazil.  They had their debut in June 2008.
