
While in Beijing amid the excitement of the Olympic Games, Cartoonist Mauricio de Sousa presented Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with the first issue of Monica's Gang comic magazine in Chinese.
The meeting between Mauricio de Sousa and President Lula occurred at Casa Brasil, the Brazilian promotion center at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and the central point for business and government representatives from China and Brazil to pursue many projects, including the launch of Brazil as a candidate for 2016 Olympic Games.
The educational project "Learn While You Are Having Fun With Monica's Gang," licensed by Mauricio de Sousa to OEC-Online Education China, has launched comic magazines already such as: The Discovery of Brazil, Soccer, Natural Phenomena and Olympic sports.
Cartoonist Mauricio de Sousa was invited by the Brazilian Exports and Investment Agency - APEX's to a press conference at Casa Brasil where he discussed his ongoing global project "Monica's Gang in China: A Fun Way to Learn."
Mauricio de Sousa also gave a talk before guests and children from the Beijing Zhongguancun School. They were delighted to see Mauricio drawing his characters.
The surprise of the event was the arrival of Mauricio's lead character, Monica, in the flesh. She greeted the children and distributed made-in-Brazil Monica's Gang souvenirs and comic books in Chinese.
